What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing technique whereby the therapist channels universal life force energy into the patient to activate the natural healing processes by restoring physical, emotional and spiritual well-being.

Who can benefit from Reiki?

Everyone. Reiki is safe for adults, teens, children, babies, animals and plants. Reiki is guided by it's own intelligence to go exactly where healing is needed. Even people feeling "well" can benefit from Reiki sessions to keep their energy bodies open and balanced and to maintain good health. People drawn towards Reiki for a specific ailment might also find relief in overall general health and well-being. When you treat the whole system, each individual part of that system is better able to heal.

Conditions Reiki can help:

Maintain Wellness: Promote General Well-being, Creativity, Inspiration, Focus, Clarity, Calming, Promote Love & Compassion, Increase Confidence, Clarity, Guidance Towards Life Purpose

Emotional: Stress, Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Addiction, Guilt, Grief, Anger, Rage Insomnia, Heartache

Physical: Tension, Headache, Musculoskeletal Issues, Circulatory Issues, Fibromyalgia, Fatigue, Cancer, Infectious Disease, Detoxification, Weight loss

What to expect during a session:

In the beginning we will start with a conversation to set the intention of the session. The client will then relax on the Reiki table, fully clothed, with a warm blanket and an eye pillow (both optional). I will start by smudging and clearing the energy, burning sage, palo santo and essential oils. Crystals will be placed along the body or in the client's hands, based upon their individual need. The next part of the session entails me intuitively scanning the body and then channeling healing energy into the client by hovering my hands over various parts of the body or with light touch from the crown chakra to the root chakra.  During this time, I encourage the client to go into a deep state of relaxation, although it is not necessary in order for the Reiki to work. I typically end the session with a light sound healing using Himalayan singing bowls and chimes to gently start bringing the client's awareness back into the physical realm. Afterwards, we will have a discussion of anything that might have come up during the session or any intuitive messages that might have been received.

What will I feel?

During the session, clients often describe feeling a deep sense of relaxation, similar to meditation. It is not uncommon for clients to fall asleep or to have lucid sleep. Some clients have reported receiving visions or messages in a dream-like state. Additionally, clients might feel physical sensations such as warmth, tingling, or muscular twitching. Any involuntary muscle spasm or twitch is a great indicator that the Reiki is opening energy blockages! Certain people have expressed feeling tension, sadness, anger or negativity "leaving" their bodies and being replaced with peace. It is not unusual to cry when certain blockages are released.

After the session, many clients report feeling lighter and more relaxed, as if weight had been lifted. In general, clients might feel calming clarity, peace, love and joy. The higher the frequency of your energy or vibration, the lighter you feel in your physical, emotional, and mental bodies. For certain clients, early on there might be a period of "detoxification" which can result in bouts of emotional release and the need to rest and hydrate more than usual. Reiki continues to work throughout the body and each individual will have a different experience; some feeling the positive effects immediately, and others feeling it hours, days or weeks later.

Will Reiki cure me or eliminate my pain?

Wonderful results and miracles stemming from Reiki have been reported, but fundamentally, no healing modality can guarantee any cure.

Reiki restores and balances the body energetically to facilitate the best possible healing conditions. The healing occurs from within (i.e. the body heals itself), but Reiki speeds up the process of healing by balancing, removing blockages and inducing relaxation. The body's innate intelligence regulates the amount of Reiki that one receives and where it goes.

Reiki works through the transference of positive energy into the chakras (or energy pathways). These pathways sometimes become blocked by negative thoughts and feelings, and blockages can decrease organ functioning and health, as life force energy is unable to reach them. The flood of positive energy into chakras breaks up the blockage in the body's energy field. The pathways are unblocked and life force energy can reach the body's organs and tissues to increase their level of functioning.

Additionally, it is important to recognize that curing and healing are two different things. Reiki energy is intelligent and aware of each soul's path and mission. If a person's path and purpose in this lifetime is to have a certain physical or mental ailment, Reiki will only assist where it is needed and where it serves the soul's highest good. Reiki will never cause harm. The fact that a person is seeking Reiki is good evidence that they will benefit from it in some way, even if a total "cure" is not imminent. That's not to say that total healing won't occur; it all depends on the soul's path.

Reiki is a complimentary therapy that can and should be used in conjunction with other healing systems, including medical or psychological care under a licensed professional, if needed.
